Pedal for Peace Bike-a-thon
The Pedal for Peace is a new way for people to contribute to the MCC Relief Sale efforts this year. This event invites cyclists from all over Saskatchewan to join together for an extended ride of 43km to help build understanding and awareness for the challenges refuges face around the world each day as they search for peace. Why 43 km? Syria is one area in serious conflict at this time and many Syrians are fleeing to neighboring countries of Jordan and Lebanon find safety. The pedal for peace will cover a distance of 43 km to represent the distance from Damascus, Syria to the border of Lebanon. Cyclists will learn more about the lives of refugees as they pass through educational check points along the way. Read the story of one family's journey here. Participants will be asked to pay a registration fee of $20 for adults and $10 for youth 18 and under. This fee will cover breakfast and the costs of the ride including support vehicles, checkpoint refreshments, and safety supplies. Sponsors of the event will be requested to pledge a certain amount per participant, so the more cyclists we have pedaling the more money we raise! The ride will take place on the morning of Saturday, June 13th beginning and ending at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon. This event is open to people with all levels of fitness and abilities.
